On the occasion of the 160th anniversary of the birthday of Leon Wyczółkowski and the 75th anniversary of the donation of the artist’s widow Franciszka Wyczółkowska, i.e. a collection of his works and memorabilia, furniture and studio equipment, which originated the museum’s monographic collection devoted to the artist and his works, the City Council of Bydgoszcz has announced the year 2012 The Year of Leon Wyczółkowski. On this occasion, institutions and entities active in the culture and education sectors have joined the special celebrations of the Year through organisation of exhibitions, scientific sessions, and lectures devoted to the artist’s life and works.
The Leon Wyczółkowski District Museum in Bydgoszcz has a special role in these projects. Keeping in mind our region’s residents and all enthusiasts of Leon Wyczółkowski’s works, we have prepared an Internet vortal, i.e. a compendium of knowledge on the artist’s life and works.
The vortal has been established on the basis of the materials and information gathered at the District Museum in Bydgoszcz. However, we do hope that you will contribute to its extension. Maybe in the albums of your parents, grandparents or great grandparents you will find photographs or documents connected with the artist, and you would like to share them with wider audiences.
We also encourage cultural institutions to co-operation in co-creation of the vortal. Our joint efforts can contribute to the creation of the first Internet base of this type, which in such a competent way will present the artist’s life and works.

The presented vortal materials are divided into several thematic parts, e.g. popular science part, cultural part, part for children, and multimedia part. Here, you will find a complete base of works from the collections of the Leon Wyczółkowski District Museum in Bydgoszcz, information connected with the artist’s field of activity and graphic techniques, his private notes, memoirs and letters.
