The Vistula guided by the brush...

From Warsaw I went to Sandomierz, and came back to Warsaw. A brief break and a trip down the river. I hope that after a cruise on the Vistula I will bring several dozen things. From the inside of Tuchola – depths with lights. The Vistula near Świecie. We waited for a ferry an hour and a half. Chełmno. Former Dominican church, now a Protestant church. I painted the Chełmno Court from the window of my hotel room. The Town Hall in Chełmo; two towers, one was destroyed. The moment they repaired it, it was struck by lightning and consumed by fire several times (just like a cover of a cotton candy, from the first floor of Szkolna Street). An altar in Koronowo. Three angels guarding the altar. Hands, feet, folds. A magnificent sculptor, possibly an Italian. Friar, 1600. Beautiful caryatids. I was weak at the knees. I used black ink to paint the altar. The second side had a smaller altar and a better take. Chojnice. The Church in Świecie in the open space, attacked by water. A beautiful steeple, I had to tone down the sky. Trees and flocks of jackdaws, architecture like a funeral vestment. The tragic Fara Church in Świecie on a lithograph, a smaller format. Foul weather, flood. One of the most beautiful churches in Pomerania; the apse is composed like the organ. St. John in Toruń, I mean bleakness. Toruń, the courtyard in winter, in snow. In Nowe, we got caught in the rain. We come back from Grudziądz to Laskowice and Bydgoszcz. The Vistula, Solec, a study for the painting. The Vistula guided by the brush ... I was freezing several times in the car. I went on a trip to Pomerania in the car of Mr. Szulisławski during the 1930 vacation.
