Stone Lithography
an intaglio printmaking technique, consisting in carving a drawing in the stone. Stone lithography uses special hard lithographic stones and making a negative print (white lines on the dark background). This technique was used in production of securities and maps.
Stone lithography is also known as a convex printing technique used in China in the beginning of the 7th century. Lines carved in soft and flat stones looked like a light drawing on the dark background on a print.
